Get Subsidized

The well known rent subsidy, to which you're entitled when you're Dutch, your rent isn't too high and your income is low, can be computed very simply at VROM. Of course need to have a legal apartment for which you don't pay that much anyhow. But if you are that lucky, you can lower your effective rent even more.
